A HISTORY OF ONGOING COMMITMENT
TO ART AND DESIGN EDUCATION
The Corcoran Gallery of Art was formally founded as a public institution in 1869 at the intersection of Seventeenth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. When the Gallery opened its doors in 1874, art students immediately flocked to the museum to observe, sketch, and paint copies of the collection’s famous works. Today the Corcoran's Continuing Education department offers more than 200 for-credit and non-credit classes and workshops in studio art, design, photography, art education, and art history. The Corcoran is committed to making art accessible to everyone with a desire to learn, regardless of age, skill level, or experience.
