AS4205: Creative Writing: Writing for Artists
Writing for Artists. This class will engage historic and contemporary uses of language in the arts, moving beyond words as simply descriptive tools and toward an understanding of the plasticity and contingency of language usage. Genres explored will include automatic writing, various uses of appropriation in poetry and visual art, the artist's statement, and the interview. Texts will include selections from Conversing with Cage, Dialogues with Duchamp, Picasso on Art, I'll Be Your Mirror: The Selected Andy Warhol Interviews, and others. We will also be making use of web resources such as Ubu and PennSound.
