CR0830: Creating Ceramic Tiles
Students will learn to create ceramic tiles, experimenting with various methods of tile production and surface effects through glazing and firing. In addition to understanding the process of glaze mixing, the class will explore bisque and glaze firing, bisques slabs, plaster press molds, carving, modeling, slip trailing, scraffito, and stenciling. To complement the studio work, slide lectures will show the historic and contemporary uses of tile and pattern in architecture.
