CR2300: Intermediate/Advanced Hand Building

Building on basic hand building skills acquired in both Introduction to Hand Building and Introduction to Ceramics, students will experiment with advanced techniques used in the process of creating both sculptural and utilitarian objects. Additional processes explored will include one and two piece press molds, use of the clay extruder for both hollow form and coil construction methods, hybrid glaze design, and clay body choices. Firing techniques and other options for surface treatment will be discussed. Projects will include assignments and independent study, after individual meetings with each student.

This course is occasionally cross-listed with CR1300: Introduction to Hand Building. Students should enroll in the version of the course appropriate for their skill level.

The following prerequisites are required for this course:
CR1300 Introduction to Hand Building and/or CR1205 Introduction to Ceramics; permission of the department (Continuing Education students should email ceadvisor@corcoran.org).
