DR1310: Academic Figure Drawing

This course employs traditional methods in studying drawing used by European art academies for centuries, such as placement of the outline; seeing the figure as a two-dimensional projection of a three-dimensional form; ways of measuring proportions; weight distribution, especially in a standing figure; and seeing the unique characteristics of the form. The emphasis of the course is on tonal drawing, which shows a relation between the way we see form and changes in tonal values. This type of drawing is very beneficial to painters, since the result is very close to the grisaille technique in painting.
