JE2230: Alternative Materials
Alternative materials are an exciting area of jewelry, and can be used in many ways to create form and objects. This class will provide an overview of various methods of working with materials like leather, acrylic sheet, latex and rubber sheeting, found objects, paper and fabric. Methods include heat forming, vacuum forming, sewing, fabrication techniques, and cold connections. A series of projects will be developed according to each student's individual project. Sketching and the creation of design models will be required as part of each assignment. Sample making will aid in the explanation of techniques and ensure the understanding of methodologies. Slide lectures, and handouts will further aid in educating students about the jewelry design process incorporating alternative materials.
