SL2341: Introduction to Woodworking and Furniture Design
This course is designed for students with an interest in woodworking and furniture design. The fundamentals of both traditional and contemporary design are explored. From chairs to tables to a variety of cabinetry, students will have the ability to construct a work of their own design. Over the course of the semester, students will work with the instructor on the design and building of a piece of furniture. Instruction in the usage and techniques of both machine and hand tools are covered in conjunction with the execution of the finished piece. Beginning with sketches, students will explore design and materials, fabricate models, and generate construction drawings, with a goal of fabricating and completing their own project. As different projects progress, tutorials on new techniques will be explained and applied.
