Corcoran College of Art and Design

SL2400: Intermediate Stone and Wood Sculpture

This course is designed for students who have had entry-level sculpture and carving classes. The focus will be advanced carving techniques. The use of texture and form will be explored, utilizing both traditional and non-traditional carving techniques and tools. Further inclusion of advanced sculptural techniques will examine the direct carving method, not using a model or maquette but allowing free creative expression. Traditional carving methods will also be employed to replicate sculpture, planned thought process, drawing, modelmaking, moldmaking, and copying using advanced sculptural instruments.
